Art Professions- Jungle Book Set Designers

Set- Design Lesson Part 1:
Learning Outcomes:
Students will describe different jobs that incorporate art.
Students will design their own set design. Students will discuss lighting that create different moods.

Brainstormed different art jobs on the board:

- architect - designs buildings, playgrounds
- painter
- illustrator- draws pictures for books
- graphic designer- uses the computer to create art
- costume designer
-cake decorator
- museum worker
- movie ( animation ) artist
- set designer- for plays and musicals

Then we got to be set designers.
First we have to know what our story is so we can create a wonderful set.

Review characters with kids:
- Mowgli- boy ( they call him a man cub)
- Baloo - Sloth Bear
- Bagheera -Jaguar
- Sher Khan- Tiger
Then we need to know the Mood or Feelings that we want to create.
Is it scary, happy?
We looked at examples and talked about questions such as:
- What kind of feelings did you have when you see this image?
- How does this setting make you feel? Why?
- Do the lights make a difference?
- How about the colors, what do they do?

Each student decided what kind of mood they want for their story.
Looked at examples of set designs.and went to the auditorium to see the space we would represent.
