Set- Design Lesson Part 1:
Learning
Outcomes:
Students will
describe different jobs that incorporate art.
Students will design
their own set design. Students will discuss lighting that create different
moods.
Brainstormed different art jobs on the board:
- architect - designs buildings,
playgrounds
- painter
- illustrator- draws pictures for books
- graphic designer- uses the computer
to create art
- costume designer
-cake decorator
- museum worker
- movie ( animation ) artist
- set designer- for plays and musicals
- set designer- for plays and musicals
Then we got to be set designers.
First we have to know what our story
is so we can create a wonderful set.
Review characters with kids:
- Mowgli- boy ( they call him a man cub)
- Baloo - Sloth Bear
- Bagheera -Jaguar
- Sher Khan- Tiger
Then we need to know the Mood or
Feelings that we want to create.
Is it scary, happy?
We looked at examples and talked about questions such as:
- What kind of feelings did you have when you see this image?
- How does this setting make you feel? Why?
- What kind of feelings did you have when you see this image?
- How does this setting make you feel? Why?
- Do the lights make
a difference?
- How about the colors, what do they do?
- How about the colors, what do they do?
Each student decided what kind of
mood they want for their story.
Looked at examples of set designs.and went to the auditorium to see the space we would represent.
